The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s conservation corps. Our members protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces in all 50 states. SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land. We are new to Metro Atlanta and are very excited to offer services to this area and youth employment through our community programs. Our community programs are community-based and localized. This program focuses on fielding high school students (14-19) in team-based positions where participants commute from home each day. A majority of our team members will be from Atlanta Public Schools. Teams typically work in urban parks and other areas at the intersection of cities and the natural environment. Many projects focus on trails and native plant work. One of our Atlanta crews is an affinity crew for individuals who self-identified as African American.
Our program dates for this summer are June 5th-July 28th. Monday-Thursday/ Hours are 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
We are hosting a virtual informational on March 16, to register click here!
Seeking Engineering Opportunities for the 2023-2024 School Year (For SA)
Drew is seeking partnerships with innovative companies that value diversity and inclusion for our high school seniors interested in careers in engineering. These partnerships intend to provide our students with internships, mentoring, and professional development while allowing them to contribute actively to the success of the partnering organization. You can click here if you’d like to learn more about this opportunity.
If you are part of an organization that would be interested in partnering with Drew Charter School to host an intern or if you have suggestions of organizations that you would be willing to share who may be interested in partnering with us, please get in touch with Beth White, Drew’s Engineering Internship Coordinator, at beth.white@drewcharterschool.org.
Parent Survey Link is LIVE!
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) wants to hear from all parents of students with disabilities. Each year the GaDOE reports on Indicator 8: The percentage of parents who report that the school facilitated parent involvement. The GaDOE uses a survey that is disseminated statewide to measure this indicator. This your time to give feedback and your participation is both important and valued. The ten-questions electronic survey is available online only. Our goal is to have 100% participation!

Applause to the 9th grade team for their Immersive Experience last week. The entire event was conceptualized and orchestrated by Mr. Jeff Kitchen. With his guidance the students collaborated to create a multidimensional experience that integrated advanced technology mediums such as coding and artificial intelligence combined with traditional art expressions. The installation turned trash and everyday household items into art!
Mr. Kitchen has published his first web series, The Alkhemist’s Stone. Check him out at www.alkhemists.com !
Dametrice Tims for his communication, compassion and support of his fellow classmates!
Senior Academy staff and students for demonstrating compassion and willingness to create signs for Junior Academy!
Courtney, the STEAM team, all of our amazing presenters – staff and students that made STEAM Day engaging for everyone!
Typically, high school is the time when young Eagles are maturing and are prepared to fly on their own. Encourage this independent practice. They will still need the watchful eye to guide them in their development and learning. Please do so during breaks and refrain from interrupting live instruction for the benefit of the students and teachers. The slideshow will include some additional ways you can support your learner in the virtual environment.
