Week of April 10th, 2017

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

Vision – Drew Charter School students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and passion to create positive change in the world.

  • Seniors, who have started to commit to colleges and universities for next year [see chart below]!
  • The junior class, Mr. Baker and Mr. Canney for their performances of the student written, produced and performed drama 5:1!
  • The sophomore and junior classes, Ms. Shuler-Davis, Ms. Simmons, Ms. Woodlee and Ms. Woods for all their hard work on the Chemistry Cooks Project!
  • All of the students who applied to the Summer Math and Science Enrichment Academy and Ms. Davis and Mr. Richardson for helping with applications!
  • Ms. Button, EA Kindergarten teacher, who received the Atlanta Families’ Award for Excellence in Education [see picture above]!
  • Ms. Hood who returned from maternity leave on Friday before Spring Break!
  • Mr. Rashid, who works day in and day out with our most difficult student experiences (and does a great job coaching soccer)!
  • Ms. Crooks for greeting and helping route everyone when the enter the building!
  • Mr. Colbert and Mr. Richardson for helping coordinate the Danish student visit and to the teachers who hosted students in their classes!
  • Ms. Kaney for her work coordinating several new Drew scholarships!
  • The orchestra and Ms. Colbert for hosting the Orchestra Spring Concert!
  • The Student Government Association and Ms. Allen for all their hard work on the SGA Day of Play!

  • Tuskegee Airmen Aviation Career Training Program (TAACT) – “The goal of the Tuskegee Airmen Aviation Career Training Program is to excite and motivate our youth to learn about the aerospace industry. The TAACT program endeavors to instill, in children, an appreciation for the academic skills, moral character, proper conduct, dedication and discipline necessary to succeed. More importantly, we want them to discover that learning can be fun when done in the context of aviation. TAACT offers comprehensive training in the various aviation disciplines. Our program targets students between the ninth and twelfth grade and, actual flight training is included.”
