Week of March 27th, 2017

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

Shout Outs to. . . 

  • The Drew Debate Team and Ms. Schaffer for finishing fourth at the Atlanta Urban Debate League State Championships.  Maddox Gates and Payton Gunner won 4th place in the Two-Person Policy Teams (out of 40 teams!) Maddox Gates – 10th place individual speaker award (out of 80 speakers!)

  • The following students who all scored superior at the Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) spoken language contest at Cambridge High School on Saturday and to Ms. Might for serving as a judge.  Hundreds of students from across the metro area were interviewed and their proficiency was rated in the categories of notable, excellent and superior (the highest rating awarded).

Announcements:

  • Principal’s Coffee Materials – Last Tuesday we held our monthly Principal’s Coffee on the topic of extracurricular activities. The presentation for the coffee is available here.  We anticipate covering testing at our April Principal’s Coffee on April 18th.
  • Quarter 3 Progress Reports– Quarter 3 ended on March 13th and students’ progress reports will be mailed home this week.  These grades will not post to students’ transcripts, but are an important indicator of their progress.  Please review your student’s progress report with them and contact teachers and your student’s counselor if you have questions.
  • Reminder: Georgia Parent Survey– The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet.  All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.
  • Reminder: MyPaymentsPlus – We are excited to announce a new way to pay for student dues, yearbooks, field trips and other expenses.  MyPaymentsPlus allows parents/guardians to pay for these obligations online via credit card.  More information about the program and how to register are available in this flyer.
  • Reminder: Yearbook – The Charles R. Drew Charter School  2017 Yearbook is now available for sale!! This year’s book is a Signature Series Hardcover bound, PreK-12 (Drew’s FIRST graduating senior class), full color, 140 pages and is available for delivery 5/8/2017.
