Week of April 22th, 2019

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

Shout-outs to:

  • The Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer Teams for qualifying for the State Playoffs for the second year in a row!
  • Le’Qual Anthony, Khairi Barber-Corporal, Nya Foster, Khalil Bray, Skye Holloway, Cassandrea Howard, Kamyra Russell, Keeley Shepherd, Deja Stafford, Love Thompson, and Zakiah Willis, whose shelter plans were chosen to be built for Space Is: Shelter and were be on display Friday night!  All of these students have worked very hard to make some fantastic prototypes to potentially provide shelter for a homeless individual.  The Research and Design class will be building an actual hut to be donated to Mad Housers in coming weeks.
  • All of the recent inductees to the National Honor Society and to Ms. Stinson for organizing the induction!
  • Peyton Rodgers, Haley Whetstone, DeGreer Harris and Beth White for being recognized as Valedictorian, Salutatorian, STAR Student and STAR Teacher, respectively, at the APS Awards Breakfast on Friday!
  • Senior Christopher McCrary, who is being recognized from the GSU Clarkston Math Dept as a student of the semester because of his performance in his Quantitative Reasoning course!
  • Ms. Hairston and Ms. O’Roark and for organizing and preparing students for the Harp Concert Tuesday night!
  • Mr. Copp, Ms. Kaney-Weaver, and Mr. Martin for their vision for the Learning Lab moving forward and Mr. Augustin and Mr. Grant for their help realizing this vision!
  • Ms. White, Ms. Anderson, Mr. Morrison, Ms. Byrant, Ms. Vaughn, Ms. Nguyen, Ms. Luster, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Ruffin, Mr. Mather, STEAM Artist in Residence, and everyone else for their work planning and working with students to present or perform at Space is the New Place: Shelter this past Friday (see picture above)!
  • Ms. Anderson and Ms. Pryor for preparing students for the Band and Orchestra Concert Wednesday night!
  • Sutanya Wright, parent of Kalani Lickteig, for being elected as the PTA VP for Senior Academy for next year!

  • SA PTA Parent Gatherings – On March 21st, we hosted our monthly PTA Senior Academy Parent Gathering on the topic of “Restorative Practices.”  These gatherings typically occur every third Thursday of the month, alternating between 8:15 am and 5:00 pm. Our next Gathering will be held this Thursday, April 25th at 5:00 pm in the Eva Davis Board Room.
