Week of December 3rd, 2018

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

Shout-outs to:

  • Ms. Isbell, who is pregnant =)!
  • The Debate Team, Ms. Schaffer and Mr. Gaines for winning their third tournament of the season (three out of four) this past weekend!
  • All of the students who presented at the JA/SA Science Fair last Friday, particularly our students in Project ENGAGES, who presented the research they are conducting in labs at Georgia Tech (see picture above)!
  • Current students and alumni for the Homecoming basketball game attendance!
  • The CCR team for planning the sophomore college trip to Oglethorpe!
  • Mr. Robinson for his efforts with helping students finish up their chemistry projects!
  • Ms. Page, Mr. Gaines, Mr. Konieczny, Mr. Myers and Ms. Woods-Livingston for helping produce and distribute the new Weekly Eagle Rise reports and jeans passes!
  • Mr. Konieczny for supporting hesitant students in sharing their work in his class!
  • Mr. Myers for his ability to work with students to develop relationships and leverage these relationships to improve behavior and for his continued leadership of master scheduling!
  • Ms. Mayes-Adams for having the highest return rate for Parent Compact Forms in the school!
  • Ms. Stinson and Ms. Weaver for working to keep alumni connected by sending them care packages for upcoming semester finals!
  • Ms. Anderson for teaching a class of two seniors to ensure that they still get access to orchestra!
  • Ms. Allen for a great example of station teaching!

  • Computer Science Position – We are currently looking to hire a Computer Science teacher for the Senior Academy.  If you know of qualified and interested candidates, please have them email me at peter.mcknight@drewcharterschool.org.
  • SA PTA Parent Gatherings – On November 15th, we hosted our monthly PTA Senior Academy Parent Gathering on the topic of “College Branding.”  These gatherings typically occur every third Thursday of the month, alternating between 8:15 am and 5:00 pm.  There will not be a Gathering in December and so we will pick back up on Thursday January 17th.

    • Do you have a suggestion for a future Parent Gathering topic?  Please email our PTA Vice President, Wanda Ray or please complete this form.
  • Reminder: Lunch Balances – Please take a moment to check your student’s lunch balance at www.MySchoolBucks.com.  Any student who owes money, will need to bring cash to pay for lunch until their balance is cleared.  Outstanding balances can be paid down and money can be added to students’ accounts on this website.  More information is available in this letter.
