Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, that they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.

REMINDER: If you should bring a meal to the school for your student after the students’ lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies,

Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

Announcements

  • Kentrell Russell for showing Agency in Spanish.  He took his vocabulary home and studied so that he could be prepared and has since been excelling in the course. 
  • Kenya Little for scoring a high grade on her first Spanish Test. 
  • To the Varsity Volleyball Team for their win over Carver last week!
  • To Ms. Simmons for ensuring students are supported in their school work by pushing students towards extended learning!
  • The CCR Team for all the hard work in preparing rosters for student conferences during the first half day conference!
  • Ms. Shaffer for incorporating an interdisciplinary project entry event and encouraging students to present teaching/learning strategies!
  • Grade level teams for working through the parent conference day to ensure that families were able to have face-to-face meetings!
  • The CCR Team and Mr. White for participation and preparation of a successful Senior Night!
  • Ms. Bryant for her collaboration with the Science Department to prepare for Science Fair!
  • Mr. Johnson for his continuous involvement in restorative practices and culture building with staff!
  • Dr. Allen for engaging in proactive restorative practices to assist students and families!
  • Coach Davis for actively being involved in student monitoring and providing students with positive reinforcement and feedback
  • Coaches Wilder, A.Smith, and Livingston for bonding with the Volleyball team; the girls were able to meet the teams who played after watching the them play!

College and Career Readiness Programming/Events:

Junior Grade Level/College Counseling Night: The College and Career Readiness Team will host Junior Grade Level and College Counseling Night on Tuesday, September 10th! We strongly encourage all juniors parents/guardians and students to attend. School Counselor, Ms. Davis will present information regarding HS graduation requirements, class dues and general class updates. Students will also have a formal opportunity to meet and get to know their College Counselors and Early College Counselor. College Counselors will provide an overview of college admissions timeline and upcoming junior college readiness programming.

2ND ANNUAL HBCU NIGHT – On behalf of the College and Career Readiness Team at Charles R. Drew Charter School, we would like to invite your school district, grades 9-12 to HBCU Night Join us at Charles R. Drew Charter School for an admissions and scholarship presentation and an opportunity to meet college admissions representatives! To register, click here!

**PLEASE NOTE** There is another high school called “Charles R. Drew High School” in Riverdale, GA. This school is unrelated to ours, and google maps often confuses us. Please make sure to double check your map before heading to the school. Please also be mindful that the elementary school campus is down the hill from the Senior Academy, and your map may take you there. Please use this destination for google maps here.

Reflections Art Competition

National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response a student-selected theme. The theme for the 2019-2020 program year is Look Within. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.

Last year Drew Charter sent 12 students from all 3 Academies on to the State-wide competition in Literature, Photography, & Visual Arts!! 


Uniform Concerns!

Families who still have not received their orders:

Please forward a copy or screenshot of the confirmation information to Kendrick.Myers@drewcharterschool.org and Tameka.Allen@drewcharterschool.org with the students’ name in the subject line.

Note: Students are still expected to be in uniform: Khakis, white button-down and tie are required.

– Ties will be onsite and for sell at the school store tomorrow morning!
