Week of November 12th, 2018

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

  • Shoutout to ALL DREW students who placed at this Tournament! Drew Charter took 2nd Place in the Tournament! Thanks to Ms.Schaffer for her diligent work with these students.
    • Varsity Team Results – There were 20 teams in Varsity
      • Terron Joiner and Ivy Diamond – 1st Place Overall
    • Novice Team Results – There were 36 teams competing in Novice
      • Justin Yarbrough and Taeya Matthews – 2nd place Overall
      • Jaxson Saunders and Kim Nguyen – 6th place overall
      • Kacy Caldwell and Bryce Zelazoski – 8th place overall
  • Ms.McKenzie for checking in on subs to ensure students were engaged when teachers were out!
  • Ms.Wilder and Ms.Hecht for being the glue in classrooms when the core content teachers are out!
  • Ms.McIntyre for a really well-designed study guide and for her strong rapport with her students!
  • Mr.Baker and the JA cast of Romeo and Juliet for a great show!

  • Student Opportunity- The Youth Tree Team is a paid 7-week work readiness program that offers current high school students the opportunity to assist Trees Atlanta with maintaining the urban canopy of the city. There are also post program opportunities for students to earn volunteer hours with plantings and other events with the organization year-round.

  • SA PTA Parent Gatherings – On October 18th at 5:00pm we hosted our monthly PTA Senior Academy Parent Gathering on the topic of “College Branding.”  These gatherings typically occur every third Thursday of the month, alternating between 8:15 am and 5:00 pm.  The next Gathering will be held at 8:15 am on Thursday, November 15th.

    • Do you have a suggestion for a future Parent Gathering topic?  Please email our PTA Vice President, Wanda Ray or please complete this form.
  • Reminder: Lunch Balances – Please take a moment to check your student’s lunch balance at www.MySchoolBucks.com.  Any student who owes money, will need to bring cash to pay for lunch until their balance is cleared.  Outstanding balances can be paid down and money can be added to students’ accounts on this website.  More information is available in this letter.

  • Drew PTA’s Winter Holidays Poinsettia Fundraiser – October 15 – November 5.
    Grown in a local nursery, these red, pink, or white poinsettias (your choice) arrive in a choice of 3 sizes: 6-inch pot, 8-inch pot, or 10-inch pot. The live plants will arrive wrapped in a plastic sleeve to ensure high quality. The flowers will be delivered to the school in late November or early December.

  • Event: International Cafe- Please do us the honor of joining us at the International Cafe, a dance experience featuring performances by the Elementary, Junior, and Senior Academies. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Center for the Arts.
