Drew Opportunity Fund: First Initiative  

Last school year, Drew Charter launched its inaugural annual fund campaign, the Drew Opportunity Fund, in honor of our retiring Head of School Don Doran.  Under Mr. Doran’s leadership Drew students had myriad opportunities to innovate, achieve, travel and compete, all of which help to close the opportunity gap and make Drew an exemplary learning community. 

As this is a new initiative for Drew, please encourage others to participate, feel free to share ideas for support, and join me in making a donation to this year’s campaign if you haven’t already.  The more we raise, the more we can do!


Lottery Application Window for **New Students** Open Through April 30, 2020

If your student has a sibling who is interested in attending Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, the lottery application for potential new students is available now through April 30, 2020. The online application is also available on Drew’s website. All qualifying applications will be included in the lottery on May 7th. Drew is not participating in Atlanta Public Schools’ pilot “Enroll APS Charter” project for the 2020-2021 school year. All Drew lottery applications must be submitted via Drew’s online process.

The Re-enrollment Process for 2020-2021

**Re-enrollment Process Updates**

Please visit our re-enrollment webpage for important updates to our 2020-2021 re-enrollment process. All rising 1st through 12th graders must complete the online re-enrollment form which was due on March 31. Thank you for completing these! Only students in transition grades (rising 6th and rising 9th grades) and any student who has moved and requires an address update in our system will be required to submit current proof-of-residency documents as a part of re-enrollment. They may do so electronically (click here for step-by-step instructions), submission of this documentation must be submitted by May 1, 2020, or in-person at a later date this information is to-be-determined.

For parents/guardians of students who do not fall into one of the above categories, there are no next steps to re-enroll your child beyond completing the online re-enrollment form. You will receive an email indicating final re-enrollment status by Friday, May 1, 2020.

The deadline to order a 2019-2020 yearbook has been extended until Wednesday, April 22, 2020. While we won’t be back in our school building this spring, we are working on a plan for safe distribution once they arrive.

The deadline to complete the online re-enrollment form, which was originally March 27, 2020, has been extended to March 31, 2020. Thank you to all the families who have already completed this!

If you have yet to do so, please look for an email with the subject line “Drew Online Re-enrollment Form: Now due March 31”, which was resent on March 24 to the enrolling/primary parent/guardian of any student for whom we have not yet received a completed form. Click the link in the email and follow the prompts to create a password for your account. Once signed in, click on the green “Re-enroll” button to the right of your student’s name to complete the form. 

If you did not receive this email or are unable to complete the form online, let us know at enrollment@drewcharterschool.org or 404-450-0567. Please be sure to include your student’s name in your communication. If you do NOT plan on your student returning to Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, email enrollment@drewcharterschool.org. You do not need to complete the online form.

At this time, the on-site and in-person portion of re-enrollment remains postponed. We will distribute new directions for the submission of proof-of-residency documents at a later date. Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.

    Speak What Must Be Spoken Tour!!!

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:
    -Graduation Generation in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Rose Library, and Woodruff Library

Dear Drew Parents/Guardians:

Thank you for hanging in there with us this week as we made our way through the first week of e-learning at Drew Charter School.  As we approach the weekend, we wanted to remind you that this coming Monday, March 23rd, will be a Teacher Planning Day at Drew. There will be no new instruction or new student assignments Monday, March 23, 2020.   The Teacher Planning Day will give our staff an opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges of week 1 and plan for the coming weeks. Hopefully, it will also give your family a chance to breathe and regroup as new challenges confront all of us personally in this unprecedented global pandemic.

Phase II of e-learning
When students return to e-learning Days on next Tuesday, March 24th, we will move into Phase II of e-learning.  We have taken this first week, known as Phase I, to adjust to the e-learning platform, find our rhythm, provide assignments, distribute as many devices to families in need as possible, and call our families with students who have yet to show up in their Google Classrooms.  Under current circumstances, we feel as prepared as possible to transition to Phase II. We will take a moment to update you on what to expect in Phase II. We encourage you to take the time to talk with your student about what lies ahead in e-learning and the value of engaging in the e-learning process. 

During Phase II, we will officially transition to incorporating a combination of live, recorded, and vetted instructional videos to deliver mini-lessons, now inclusive of new content. Live instruction will be recorded and posted for future viewing in order to allow families the viewing flexibility we all need right now. Our teachers are positioned, prepared and committed to providing instruction that will best equip our students to access their current 4th quarter curriculum and ensure they are prepared for the next grade level. To ensure that our students are ready, it will require us to teach new content, specifically 4th quarter standards, in an engaging e-learning environment. 

We appreciate your patience and understanding with our school and especially with our teachers as you communicate with them about your student and about the new processes and practices that are being established.  We realize that this level of e-learning is new for everyone involved –the students, teachers, parents and school administrators. I assure you that our commitment and dedication to providing an excellent education to all of our students is unwavering.  Know that our staff is working incredibly hard to engage all students in the learning process. We appreciate your patience, support, understanding, and kindness as we transition to Phase II of e-learning.

We continue to remain aware that the change in your student’s school environment is only one of the new circumstances you are handling daily.  As we navigate our world while the Coronavirus outbreak unfolds, Drew hopes to help address some of the other daily living challenges that some of our families face.  To ensure families can quickly access updates and available resources, we are continuing to collect and consolidate information on a new Coronavirus Closing and Updates page on Drew’s website.  Click here or visit our website anytime to access the page.

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:
    -Graduation Generation in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Rose Library, and Woodruff Library

Drew Opportunity Fund: First Initiative  

Last school year, Drew Charter launched its inaugural annual fund campaign, the Drew Opportunity Fund, in honor of our retiring Head of School Don Doran.  Under Mr. Doran’s leadership Drew students had myriad opportunities to innovate, achieve, travel and compete, all of which help to close the opportunity gap and make Drew an exemplary learning community. 

As this is a new initiative for Drew, please encourage others to participate, feel free to share ideas for support, and join me in making a donation to this year’s campaign if you haven’t already.  The more we raise, the more we can do!


Lottery Application Window for **New Students** Open Through April 30, 2020

If your student has a sibling who is interested in attending Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, the lottery application for potential new students is available now through April 30, 2020. The online application is also available on Drew’s website. All qualifying applications will be included in the lottery on May 7th. Drew is not participating in Atlanta Public Schools’ pilot “Enroll APS Charter” project for the 2020-2021 school year. All Drew lottery applications must be submitted via Drew’s online process.

  • Please note that the lottery is for potential new students only
  • This includes students currently enrolled in the Cox Pre-K Program at Drew.

The **Re-enrollment Process for 2020-2021** has been paused until further notice.

The on-site portion of re-enrollment for the 2020 – 2021 school year, which was scheduled to begin on March 17, has been postponed.

  • Please note that the online re-enrollment form, which was the first step of the re-enrollment process, is available now and should be completed by March 27.
    • Thank you to everyone who has already completed this!
  • If you have yet to do so, please look for an email with the subject line “Drew Online Re-enrollment Form”, which was initially sent on Monday, March 9 (you may need to check your spam folder).

Once next steps are finalized for the on-site, in-person portion of re-enrollment, updates will be sent out to families.

  • Running Late?

    ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, then they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

    After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.
  • Need to Visit a student/teacher?

    • Parents/Guardians, Atlanta Public Schools has introduced a new way to record movement throughout the school on a daily basis. The new protocol is in effort to enhance Atlanta Public School’s student, staff and campus security. Once the system is installed parents/guardians will need to bring in their state ID, regardless of how long they have been a parent/guardian at Drew, to conduct any school business.
  • Dropping off Food?

    REMINDER: If you bring a meal to the school for your student before your student’s lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies.

    Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

Message from Dean of Students
CONCERNING: Food delivery and Item Drop-off Policy
Hello SA families,

Due to recent safety concerns, we would like to reiterate our policy on food deliveries and item drop offs during the school day.

Students are not permitted to order food to be delivered to the school at any time. This includes but is not limited to pizza, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Any student order that is intercepted by staff will be disposed of immediately and students/parents will not be reimbursed.

Also, any student that is caught in the process of accepting food from a vehicle will be directed to dispose of it immediately.
In the event that a parent/guardian must bring a lunch to the school, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bring the lunch prior to the designated lunch period to the main office to sign in (students will not be called out of class)
    • 9th/10th grade lunch is 11:10-11:40 and 11th/12th grade lunch 12:50-1:25.
    • Meal drop off will not be permitted after the student’s scheduled lunch time.
  • Pack and label lunch in a closed container (sack or lunch box/bag)
  • Bring lunch only for students for which you are a contact
    • Please do not send unauthorized individuals with food for your student. They will not be permitted to drop it off.
  • Lunches must be placed in cubby in cafeteria
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to meet their student in front of the school to deliver food, but must park, enter the building and sign in
  • Please note that the lunch cubbies are not secure and we are not responsible for any lost items. Students should do their best to bring their lunches to school with them as the lunch cubbies should be used in emergency situations only.
Lastly, students are not permitted to walk out to a car or accept anything from a person outside of the school building during the school day for any reason. Students found doing this will face disciplinary action regardless of the item accepted. All items should be dropped off at the front desk for pick up and food items should be dropped off via the procedure above.

Thank you for following this protocol and working with Drew staff to ensure that our students receive a wonderful education in a safe environment.

**Current Student** Re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year

Re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is from March 17 to March 27, 2020. All current Drew Charter School students (rising 1st -12th) who are returning for the 2020-2021 school year must complete the re-enrollment process. Please note that students currently attending the Cox Pre-K Program at Drew who are interested in attending Drew for kindergarten do not go through the re-enrollment process; they must submit a lottery application by April 30, 2020.

New this year: In an effort to streamline the process, the primary or enrolling parent/guardian will receive an email with a unique link to their household’s online re-enrollment account. By clicking the link to access your account you will be able to review/verify information for your student/s rather than completing each form from scratch.

There are three parts to re-enrollment:

  1. Online Re-enrollment Form

Instructions for completing the online re-enrollment form along with a unique link will be emailed to the primary/enrolling parent/guardian no later than March 13. Be on the lookout for an email titled “Drew Online Re-enrollment Form”. If you are unable to complete the form ahead of time, computers will be available during in-person re-enrollment.

  • In-person Re-enrollment Period

Next, parents/guardians must come onsite to the Practice Gym at the Junior/Senior Academy located at 300 Eva Davis Way during the dates/times listed below to provide updated proof of residence (and any other applicable) documents in person. The 2020-2021 Re-enrollment Checklist outlines the required proof of residence documents. We will collect residency verification documents on the following dates/times. Parking is available in the athletic parking lot (next to Drew’s soccer field).

Your re-enrollment will not be considered complete until submitted documents have been verified by Drew staff.  Following verification, a letter will be emailed indicating final re-enrollment status.           

All current Drew Charter School students are required to re-enroll during the re-enrollment period in order to return to Drew next year.  If you do not re-enroll your child, your child’s seat for the 2020-2021 school year may be forfeited. We look forward to seeing you during in-person enrollment.     Speak What Must Be Spoken Tour!!!

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:
    -Graduation Generation in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Rose Library, and Woodruff Library

    This expectation is fully enforced and can result in the withholding of student records. Please read to be well informed
  • Running Late?

    ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, then they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

    After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.
  • Need to Visit a student/teacher?

    • Parents/Guardians, Atlanta Public Schools has introduced a new way to record movement throughout the school on a daily basis. The new protocol is in effort to enhance Atlanta Public School’s student, staff and campus security. Once the system is installed parents/guardians will need to bring in their state ID, regardless of how long they have been a parent/guardian at Drew, to conduct any school business.
  • Dropping off Food?

    REMINDER: If you bring a meal to the school for your student before your student’s lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies.

    Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

Message from Dean of Students
CONCERNING: Food delivery and Item Drop-off Policy
Hello SA families,

Due to recent safety concerns, we would like to reiterate our policy on food deliveries and item drop offs during the school day.

Students are not permitted to order food to be delivered to the school at any time. This includes but is not limited to pizza, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Any student order that is intercepted by staff will be disposed of immediately and students/parents will not be reimbursed.

Also, any student that is caught in the process of accepting food from a vehicle will be directed to dispose of it immediately.
In the event that a parent/guardian must bring a lunch to the school, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bring the lunch prior to the designated lunch period to the main office to sign in (students will not be called out of class)
    • 9th/10th grade lunch is 11:10-11:40 and 11th/12th grade lunch 12:50-1:25.
    • Meal drop off will not be permitted after the student’s scheduled lunch time.
  • Pack and label lunch in a closed container (sack or lunch box/bag)
  • Bring lunch only for students for which you are a contact
    • Please do not send unauthorized individuals with food for your student. They will not be permitted to drop it off.
  • Lunches must be placed in cubby in cafeteria
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to meet their student in front of the school to deliver food, but must park, enter the building and sign in
  • Please note that the lunch cubbies are not secure and we are not responsible for any lost items. Students should do their best to bring their lunches to school with them as the lunch cubbies should be used in emergency situations only.
Lastly, students are not permitted to walk out to a car or accept anything from a person outside of the school building during the school day for any reason. Students found doing this will face disciplinary action regardless of the item accepted. All items should be dropped off at the front desk for pick up and food items should be dropped off via the procedure above.

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization.   • Thai Daniel, Idia Endagehe, Jillian Loux, and Hunter Smith also produced a very creative project and worked great as a team!
  • Ms. Herman, Ms. Young, Ms. Jaeger, Dr. Allen, and Mr. Martin for chaperoning the Junior College Trip and creating an amazing experience for students.
    • Alumnus Omari Elliot for guiding Juniors on a tour of Xavier University of Louisiana
  • Cedric Taylor for putting in extra effort and doing a great job!
  • Mr. Bennett for always inspiring his peers, students, and athletes to, “Go for broke.”
  • Ms. Schaffer for a wonderful co-taught STEAM/Black History lesson on WWII/D-Day, students learned about the impact and casualties by using an AR Maker, supplied by Instructional Technology Coach Mr. Canney.
    • Instructional Coach Ms. Williams then highlighted the significance of Charles R. Drew’s contributions to science which aided soldiers!
  • Mr. Prince for stepping in and helping the senior team transition their Voices of East Lake project!

Lottery Application Window for New Students Open Now Through April 30, 2020

If your student has a sibling who is interested in attending Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, the lottery application for potential new students is available now through April 30, 2020. The online application is also available on Drew’s website. All qualifying applications will be included in the lottery on May 7th. Drew is not participating in Atlanta Public Schools’ pilot “Enroll APS Charter” project for the 2020-2021 school year. All Drew lottery applications must be submitted via Drew’s online process.

  • Please note that the lottery is for potential new students only
    • This includes students currently enrolled in the Cox Pre-K Program at Drew.
  • All current Drew students will have the opportunity to re-enroll in March (more details to come).

Drew Opportunity Fund: First Initiative  

Last school year, Drew Charter launched its inaugural annual fund campaign, the Drew Opportunity Fund, in honor of our retiring Head of School Don Doran.  Under Mr. Doran’s leadership Drew students had myriad opportunities to innovate, achieve, travel and compete, all of which help to close the opportunity gap and make Drew an exemplary learning community. 

As this is a new initiative for Drew, please encourage others to participate, feel free to share ideas for support, and join me in making a donation to this year’s campaign if you haven’t already.  The more we raise, the more we can do!

Lottery Application Window for New Students Open Now Through April 30, 2020

If your student has a sibling who is interested in attending Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, the lottery application for potential new students is available now through April 30, 2020. The online application is also available on Drew’s website. All qualifying applications will be included in the lottery on May 7th. Drew is not participating in Atlanta Public Schools’ pilot “Enroll APS Charter” project for the 2020-2021 school year. All Drew lottery applications must be submitted via Drew’s online process.

  • Please note that the lottery is for potential new students only
    • This includes students currently enrolled in the Cox Pre-K Program at Drew.
  • All current Drew students will have the opportunity to re-enroll in March (more details to come).

Drew Opportunity Fund: First Initiative  

Last school year, Drew Charter launched its inaugural annual fund campaign, the Drew Opportunity Fund, in honor of our retiring Head of School Don Doran.  Under Mr. Doran’s leadership Drew students had myriad opportunities to innovate, achieve, travel and compete, all of which help to close the opportunity gap and make Drew an exemplary learning community. 

As this is a new initiative for Drew, please encourage others to participate, feel free to share ideas for support, and join me in making a donation to this year’s campaign if you haven’t already.  The more we raise, the more we can do!

    Speak What Must Be Spoken Tour!!!

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:
    -Graduation Generation in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Rose Library, and Woodruff Library

  • Running Late?

    ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, then they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

    After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.
  • Need to Visit a student/teacher?

    • Parents/Guardians, Atlanta Public Schools has introduced a new way to record movement throughout the school on a daily basis. The new protocol is in effort to enhance Atlanta Public School’s student, staff and campus security. Once the system is installed parents/guardians will need to bring in their state ID, regardless of how long they have been a parent/guardian at Drew, to conduct any school business.
  • Dropping off Food?

    REMINDER: If you bring a meal to the school for your student before your student’s lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies.

    Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

Message from Dean of Students
CONCERNING: Food delivery and Item Drop-off Policy
Hello SA families,

Due to recent safety concerns, we would like to reiterate our policy on food deliveries and item drop offs during the school day.

Students are not permitted to order food to be delivered to the school at any time. This includes but is not limited to pizza, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Any student order that is intercepted by staff will be disposed of immediately and students/parents will not be reimbursed.

Also, any student that is caught in the process of accepting food from a vehicle will be directed to dispose of it immediately.
In the event that a parent/guardian must bring a lunch to the school, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bring the lunch prior to the designated lunch period to the main office to sign in (students will not be called out of class)
    • 9th/10th grade lunch is 11:10-11:40 and 11th/12th grade lunch 12:50-1:25.
    • Meal drop off will not be permitted after the student’s scheduled lunch time.
  • Pack and label lunch in a closed container (sack or lunch box/bag)
  • Bring lunch only for students for which you are a contact
    • Please do not send unauthorized individuals with food for your student. They will not be permitted to drop it off.
  • Lunches must be placed in cubby in cafeteria
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to meet their student in front of the school to deliver food, but must park, enter the building and sign in
  • Please note that the lunch cubbies are not secure and we are not responsible for any lost items. Students should do their best to bring their lunches to school with them as the lunch cubbies should be used in emergency situations only.
Lastly, students are not permitted to walk out to a car or accept anything from a person outside of the school building during the school day for any reason. Students found doing this will face disciplinary action regardless of the item accepted. All items should be dropped off at the front desk for pick up and food items should be dropped off via the procedure above.

Thank you for following this protocol and working with Drew staff to ensure that our students receive a wonderful education in a safe environment.

  • Running Late?

    ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, then they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

    After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.
  • Need to Visit a student/teacher?

    • Parents/Guardians, Atlanta Public Schools has introduced a new way to record movement throughout the school on a daily basis. The new protocol is in effort to enhance Atlanta Public School’s student, staff and campus security. Once the system is installed parents/guardians will need to bring in their state ID, regardless of how long they have been a parent/guardian at Drew, to conduct any school business.
  • Dropping off Food?

    REMINDER: If you bring a meal to the school for your student before your student’s lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies.

    Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

CONCERNING: Food delivery and Item Drop-off Policy
Hello SA families,

Due to recent safety concerns, we would like to reiterate our policy on food deliveries and item drop offs during the school day.

Students are not permitted to order food to be delivered to the school at any time. This includes but is not limited to pizza, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Any student order that is intercepted by staff will be disposed of immediately and students/parents will not be reimbursed.

Also, any student that is caught in the process of accepting food from a vehicle will be directed to dispose of it immediately.
In the event that a parent/guardian must bring a lunch to the school, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bring the lunch prior to the designated lunch period to the main office to sign in (students will not be called out of class)
    • 9th/10th grade lunch is 11:10-11:40 and 11th/12th grade lunch 12:50-1:25.
    • Meal drop off will not be permitted after the student’s scheduled lunch time.
  • Pack and label lunch in a closed container (sack or lunch box/bag)
  • Bring lunch only for students for which you are a contact
    • Please do not send unauthorized individuals with food for your student. They will not be permitted to drop it off.
  • Lunches must be placed in cubby in cafeteria
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to meet their student in front of the school to deliver food, but must park, enter the building and sign in
  • Please note that the lunch cubbies are not secure and we are not responsible for any lost items. Students should do their best to bring their lunches to school with them as the lunch cubbies should be used in emergency situations only.
Lastly, students are not permitted to walk out to a car or accept anything from a person outside of the school building during the school day for any reason. Students found doing this will face disciplinary action regardless of the item accepted. All items should be dropped off at the front desk for pick up and food items should be dropped off via the procedure above.

Purpose – Drew Charter School serves as a key component of the cradle-to-college pipeline within the holistic East Lake neighborhood revitalization. Appreciating our unique status as a mixed-income school, Drew Charter School’s primary purpose is to provide an excellent education to all children living in the Villages of East Lake so that each student reaches his or her full potential and is launched on a pathway to health, impact and prosperity.

  • Maddox Gates was awarded the Distinguished Debate Award at Michigan State University worth $20,000 per year. Only one award is given each year, this is the top Debate award at MSU.
  • The Drew Charter Debate Team for several speaker awards and for being awarded 1st place Sweepstakes winner in the January Tournament!
  • Jada Allen for curating a thoughtful piece of art to honor the late Kobe Byrant, the homaege was displayed in the Main gym for the Drew Community. 
  • Trisha Klein and her 9th grade students for the bulletin board created on the 9th grade hall in honor of the late Kobe Bryant.
  • Alexis Gaines ’20 for receiving a full tuition scholarship and acceptance to the Honors College at the University of Miami!

Lottery Application Window for New Students Open Now Through April 30, 2020

If your student has a sibling who is interested in attending Drew for the 2020-2021 school year, the lottery application for potential new students is available now through April 30, 2020. The online application is also available on Drew’s website. All qualifying applications will be included in the lottery on May 7th. Drew is not participating in Atlanta Public Schools’ pilot “Enroll APS Charter” project for the 2020-2021 school year. All Drew lottery applications must be submitted via Drew’s online process.

  • Please note that the lottery is for potential new students only
    • This includes students currently enrolled in the Cox Pre-K Program at Drew.
  • All current Drew students will have the opportunity to re-enroll in March (more details to come).

Drew Opportunity Fund: First Initiative  

Last school year, Drew Charter launched its inaugural annual fund campaign, the Drew Opportunity Fund, in honor of our retiring Head of School Don Doran.  Under Mr. Doran’s leadership Drew students had myriad opportunities to innovate, achieve, travel and compete, all of which help to close the opportunity gap and make Drew an exemplary learning community. 

As this is a new initiative for Drew, please encourage others to participate, feel free to share ideas for support, and join me in making a donation to this year’s campaign if you haven’t already.  The more we raise, the more we can do!

    Speak What Must Be Spoken Tour!!!

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:

  • The photography students and Mr. Parker for the photography and paintings conveying social justice themes as well as having onsite photographers during the event to capture the night!
  • Mr. Colbert for promotion design, for promoting the event, and for providing nourishment to all participants.
  • Ms. O’Roark and her students for the harp musical selections during the Speak What Must Be Spoken tour!
  • Ms. Jordan and Ms. Hester for their work in curation of all of Visual Art!
  • Ms. White and Ms.Bryant for all of your efforts with logistical planning and coordination of the event as well as fostering this partnership with Emory.

  • Thank you for your support on January 22nd, 2020 for the

    Speak What Must Be Spoken Tour!!!

    Traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University

    An amazing honor has been bestowed upon Senior Academy through a traveling art exhibit funded by Emory University.

    Check out the traveling exhibit recently installed at Drew. The exhibit is called Speak What Must Be Spoken.

    • The theme of the exhibit is activism through the lens of art.
    • The message to be received spotlights the importance of speaking truth which can correlate to power. A shared belief is that when injustice exists, it must be called out.
    • The exhibit hopes to empower students to recognize that they have a voice and to learn to use it in a manner that will be effective to bring about positive change.
      • The vision for the exhibit will be for students to learn about African American artists and others who spoke out against injustice in the United States and how that led to progress towards equal rights. 
      • We all know that injustice is alive in the US and the world at large. There is still a long way to go to address issues of racism, sexism, ageism, and poverty. Even though some progress has occurred over the years, concerned citizens must continue to speak up, just as those who came before us have done.
      • Speak What Must Be Spoken  uses materials from the Billops-Hatch: Still Raising Hell exhibit that was installed at Emory.
     The exhibit was sponsored by Emory University's:
    -Graduation Generation in the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, the Rose Library, and Woodruff Library

  • Running Late?

    ATTENTION: JA/SA parents, if students arrive to school at 8am, then they should proceed to the cafeteria to get a late pass up until 8:30.

    After 8:30 students will receive a late pass from the main office secretary- Ms. Edwards.
  • Need to Visit a student/teacher?

    • Parents/Guardians, Atlanta Public Schools has introduced a new way to record movement throughout the school on a daily basis. The new protocol is in effort to enhance Atlanta Public School’s student, staff and campus security. Once the system is installed parents/guardians will need to bring in their state ID, regardless of how long they have been a parent/guardian at Drew, to conduct any school business.
  • Dropping off Food?

    REMINDER: If you bring a meal to the school for your student before your student’s lunch period, then the lunch is required to be placed inside the cafeteria in the designated lunch cubbies.

    Instructional time cannot be interrupted. Moving forward administration will reinforce this policy as noted in the student/parent handbook.

Message from Dean of Students
CONCERNING: Food delivery and Item Drop-off Policy
Hello SA families,

Due to recent safety concerns, we would like to reiterate our policy on food deliveries and item drop offs during the school day.

Students are not permitted to order food to be delivered to the school at any time. This includes but is not limited to pizza, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc. Any student order that is intercepted by staff will be disposed of immediately and students/parents will not be reimbursed.

Also, any student that is caught in the process of accepting food from a vehicle will be directed to dispose of it immediately.
In the event that a parent/guardian must bring a lunch to the school, please follow these guidelines:
  • Bring the lunch prior to the designated lunch period to the main office to sign in (students will not be called out of class)
    • 9th/10th grade lunch is 11:10-11:40 and 11th/12th grade lunch 12:50-1:25.
    • Meal drop off will not be permitted after the student’s scheduled lunch time.
  • Pack and label lunch in a closed container (sack or lunch box/bag)
  • Bring lunch only for students for which you are a contact
    • Please do not send unauthorized individuals with food for your student. They will not be permitted to drop it off.
  • Lunches must be placed in cubby in cafeteria
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to meet their student in front of the school to deliver food, but must park, enter the building and sign in
  • Please note that the lunch cubbies are not secure and we are not responsible for any lost items. Students should do their best to bring their lunches to school with them as the lunch cubbies should be used in emergency situations only.
Lastly, students are not permitted to walk out to a car or accept anything from a person outside of the school building during the school day for any reason. Students found doing this will face disciplinary action regardless of the item accepted. All items should be dropped off at the front desk for pick up and food items should be dropped off via the procedure above.

Thank you for following this protocol and working with Drew staff to ensure that our students receive a wonderful education in a safe environment.

Uniform Concerns!

Families who still have not received their orders:

Please forward a copy or screenshot of the confirmation information to Kendrick.Myers@drewcharterschool.org and Tameka.Allen@drewcharterschool.org with the students’ name in the subject line.

Note: Students are still expected to be in uniform: Khakis, white button-down and tie are required.

– Khakis and button downs can be purchased outside of the Tommy Hilfiger.
– Ties will be onsite and for sell at the school store tomorrow morning!
